Childhood Grief and Separation
Supporting Young Learners Through Loss, Separation, and Community Trauma
Young children experience grief in ways that are often overlooked or misunderstood. Whether facing the death of a loved one, family separation, foster care transitions, or community-wide trauma, children need safe, responsive adults who can help them navigate big feelings and restore a sense of security. This course equips early childhood educators with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to support grieving children with compassion and cultural humility. Participants will explore how grief looks across developmental stages, learn trauma-informed strategies for responding in the moment, and discover how play, storytelling, and ritual can help children process loss.
