Community Helpers: Teaching Young Children About Farmers, Bakers, and Grocers
This course equips early childhood educators with developmentally appropriate strategies for integrating food and agricultural community helpers into the early learning curriculum. Through play-based exploration participants will learn how to introduce children to the essential roles of food and agricultural workers, helpers who nourish communities by growing, preparing, and distributing food. Educators will examine how these workers contribute to both physical health and cultural traditions, often through labor-intensive and collaborative efforts. From cultivating crops and raising livestock to baking bread and stocking shelves, food and agricultural workers play a vital role in sustaining daily life and responding to community needs, especially during emergencies or disruptions.
