Autism and Commonly Misdiagnosed Conditions
Autism is a neurodivergence rooted in neurodevelopmental differences, often characterized by challenges in interpreting neurotypical social norms, strong interests and routines, and heightened sensory sensitivity. Yet, many of these traits can overlap with or resemble those seen in other conditions such as anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and PTSD. This overlap can sometimes lead to misdiagnosis or delayed recognition of autism. This course equips educators, caregivers, and professionals with the knowledge to distinguish between autism and conditions with similar presentations. By the end of the course, learners will be better prepared to interpret behaviors through a nuanced lens, reducing misconceptions and promoting affirming practices for autistic individuals and those with other neurodivergences.
