Birth to Three: Promoting Safe and Healthy Sleep
This course equips early childhood professionals and caregivers with the knowledge and skills to promote safe and developmentally supportive sleep practices for infants and toddlers. Grounded in evidence-based research and public health guidelines, the course explores the physiological foundations of sleep, the emergence of circadian rhythms, and the critical role of sleep in cognitive, emotional, and behavioral development. Participants will examine the components of safe sleep environments, strategies for reducing the risk of Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID), and culturally responsive approaches to sleep education. Emphasis is placed on trauma-informed, equity-centered practices that honor family traditions, address systemic barriers, and foster trust-based partnerships with caregivers. (1 hour)
