Birth to Three: Responsive Scaffolding in the First Three Years
This course explores how emotionally responsive scaffolding in the first three years of life shapes the architecture of the developing brain. Grounded in attachment theory, developmental science, and culturally responsive practice, participants will examine how attuned adult-child interactions support emerging capacities in communication, motor coordination, emotional regulation, and cognitive growth. Participants will learn to recognize and respond to a child’s Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD), using scaffolding techniques that evolve with the child’s needs. The course emphasizes the importance of following a child’s lead, reading their signals, and co-constructing learning experiences that foster agency, resilience, and relational safety. (1 hour)
