Over the past century, definitions of autism have shifted dramatically, reflecting changes in research, diagnostic criteria, and, most importantly, the lived experiences of autistic individuals and their families. This course explores the evolving understanding of autism, from early clinical descriptions to today’s recognition of autism as a diverse spectrum of strengths and challenges. Participants will examine how shifting definitions have influenced public perception, educational practices, and support systems.
