About this Course

The toddler years are a critical period of growth and discovery, marked by rapid cognitive development and increasing independence. Toddlers often seek to do things on their own, develop strong preferences, and frequently express their growing autonomy through words such as “no.” This course familiarizes child care providers with the cognitive developmental skills and milestones of children from 18 months to 3 years of age. Students will explore how toddlers learn through exploration, play, language, imitation, and everyday experiences. The course examines age-appropriate activities and learning opportunities that support cognitive growth, including problem-solving, memory, attention, creativity, and early language development. The course also emphasizes the importance of recognizing potential cognitive developmental delays and understanding the benefits of early identification and intervention.
