About this Course
Play is much more than entertainment—it is one of the most effective ways young children learn and develop. Through play, children explore new ideas, practice emerging skills, solve problems, build relationships, and make sense of the world around them. Well-designed play centers provide meaningful opportunities for discovery, creativity, and hands-on learning while supporting children's social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development. Effective child care professionals intentionally create engaging, interest-based learning centers that encourage children to explore specific concepts and skills through active participation. Whether children are role-playing in a home living area, conducting simple experiments in a science center, creating artwork, or expressing themselves through music, each environment offers unique opportunities for growth and learning. In this course, participants will examine the purpose, design, and developmental benefits of key learning centers, including: ✔️Home Living Centers – promoting imaginative play, social skills, communication, and an understanding of daily routines and relationships ✔️Science and Math Centers – encouraging curiosity, observation, exploration, problem-solving, and early mathematical thinking ✔️Art Centers – supporting creativity, self-expression, fine motor development, and emotional growth ✔️Music Centers – fostering rhythm, listening skills, movement, cooperation, and creative expression Participants will learn how to design and implement engaging play environments that inspire learning, support developmental milestones, and meet the diverse needs and interests of young children. By understanding the educational value of purposeful play, child care providers can create enriching experiences that promote whole-child development and lay the foundation for lifelong learning. 🌟 IMPORTANT INFORMATION 🌟 ✔️ Washington State Nexport courses are not approved in Washington state to meet annual STARS training requirements.
