About this Course
Stress is a natural part of life, but exposure to traumatic events can have lasting effects on an individual's physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. Children and adolescents who experience or witness traumatic events—such as natural disasters, violence, accidents, abuse, loss, or other life-altering crises—may struggle to process their experiences and cope with the resulting emotional impact. While some young people demonstrate resilience and recover over time, others may develop symptoms associated with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which can significantly affect their daily functioning, relationships, and overall quality of life. This course provides an in-depth exploration of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in children and adolescent populations, examining the causes, signs, symptoms, and long-term effects of trauma exposure. Participants will gain an understanding of how traumatic experiences influence adolescent development and learn why individuals may respond differently to similar events. The course explores both the physical and psychological effects of trauma, including sleep disturbances, headaches, digestive issues, chronic tension, difficulty concentrating, heightened anxiety, emotional withdrawal, and feelings of hopelessness. Learners will examine common PTSD symptoms, risk factors, and behavioral indicators that may signal a young person is struggling with the aftermath of trauma. 🌟 IMPORTANT INFORMATION 🌟 ✔️ Washington State Nexport courses are not approved in Washington state to meet annual STARS training requirements.
