About this Course

Child sexual abuse is a difficult but critically important topic for all early childhood professionals. As trusted caregivers and educators, child care providers play a vital role in recognizing potential signs of abuse, responding appropriately to concerns, and creating environments that promote children's safety and well-being. Understanding how to identify and prevent abuse is essential to protecting children and supporting healthy development. This course provides foundational knowledge about child sexual abuse and its impact on young children. Participants will learn key terminology, including the definitions of victims, perpetrators, and grooming behaviors, while exploring the various forms of abuse, including both touching and non-touching offenses. The course examines common warning signs, risk factors, and behavioral indicators that may suggest a child has experienced abuse. In addition, learners will explore effective prevention and safeguarding strategies designed to reduce risk and promote child protection within early childhood settings. The course also addresses the short- and long-term effects of sexual abuse on children's emotional, social, behavioral, and developmental well-being, as well as evidence-based approaches to intervention, treatment, and support. By the end of this course, participants will be better prepared to recognize concerns, fulfill their responsibilities as child advocates, implement proactive prevention measures, and contribute to safe, supportive environments where children can learn, grow, and thrive. 🌟 IMPORTANT INFORMATION 🌟 ✔️ Washington State Nexport courses are not approved in Washington state to meet annual STARS training requirements.
