About this Course

Every child deserves a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment in which to grow and thrive. Unfortunately, child abuse and neglect continue to affect millions of children and can have lifelong consequences for their physical, emotional, and developmental well-being. As trusted caregivers and educators, child care professionals play a critical role in recognizing warning signs, responding appropriately, and protecting vulnerable children. This course provides an overview of child abuse and neglect, including the different forms of maltreatment, their potential impact on child development, and the indicators that may signal a child is at risk. Participants will learn about the legal and ethical responsibilities of mandated reporters, the reporting process, and the importance of timely intervention in safeguarding children. In accordance with the Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA), child abuse and neglect include:   ✔️Any recent act or failure to act by a parent or caregiver that results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse, or exploitation.   ✔️Any act or failure to act that presents an imminent risk of serious harm to a child. By increasing awareness and understanding, learners will be better prepared to advocate for children's well-being and support efforts to prevent abuse and neglect in their communities. 🌟 IMPORTANT INFORMATION 🌟 ✔️ Washington State Nexport courses are not approved in Washington state to meet annual STARS training requirements.
