About this Course
This course provides early childhood educators and caregivers with a foundational understanding of the identification and assessment of preschool children with special needs. Early intervention plays a critical role in supporting young children who may be experiencing developmental delays or disabilities, helping them build essential skills and reducing the likelihood of future learning challenges. Recognizing and addressing concerns as early as possible can significantly improve developmental, educational, and social outcomes. Participants will explore a variety of special needs that may affect preschool-aged children, including developmental, cognitive, physical, behavioral, emotional, and communication-related challenges. The course examines common indicators that may suggest a child requires additional evaluation and emphasizes the importance of observing and documenting developmental progress in early learning settings. The assessment process is reviewed in detail, including screening, referral, evaluation, and eligibility determination. Participants will learn about the professionals involved in assessing children with special needs and gain an understanding of how assessment results are used to develop individualized plans and appropriate support services. Emphasis is placed on the importance of using culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate assessment practices. 🌟 IMPORTANT INFORMATION 🌟 ✔️ Washington State Nexport courses are not approved in Washington state to meet annual STARS training requirements.
